According to the 1966 High Court judgment (Robertson v. Nii Akramah II & George Boye), Nuumo Apiakai (George Boye, alias Okyeame Boye) was born at Ofankor. He served as an Asere land overseer for approximately 30 years before being elevated to the most Senior Linguist of the Asere Stool around 1946. He had known the village of Abeka for about 50 years at the time of the judgment. The land on which he built at Abeka was given to him by Nii Ayi Tagoe, Acting Asere Mantse.
The village of Abeka itself was founded by a woman called Abeka, who came from Anomabo. The Asere Mantse granted her permission to found the village. When she died, Abeka Kwame, who was then the chief, took charge of the village on the instructions of the Asere Mantse Boi. Since Madam Abeka founded the village, it has never gone out of the hands of the Asere Stool.
Nuumo Apiakai had six wives. Five produced descendants who became the five recognised royal houses. The 6th wife's line produced a son who did not have children, leaving that house empty. Together these five active houses form the constitutional structure that has governed the Abeka Stool for generations.

The constitutional heart of the Nii Boi Royal Family. The Akwaley Anan house carries the stool and provides the kingmakers — they are the authority that formally enstools each Mantse selected from the rotating royal houses. No enstoolment is valid without their participation.

Under Ga customary law, the Abeka Mantse is selected by the Akwaley Anan kingmakers from the eligible royal houses of Nuumo Apiakai's lineage. The final determination rests with the kingmakers, who assess the full circumstances of the family before making their choice — including, where necessary, looking to the next eligible house if the current one cannot produce a suitable candidate.

Sworn before the High Court of Justice, Accra on 17 July 2023 under the Statutory Declaration Act (Act 389) of 1971. Declared by Nii Aban Boi (Abeka Seitse) and Nii Apiakai Boi (Abeka Dzaasetse) as principal elders of the Mary Akweley Anan House/Gate.

The Patriarch of the Nii Boi Family, George Yarboi, married five wives. The descendants of these five wives constitute the Five Houses/Gates of the Boi Royal Family, each carrying equal standing in family governance:

On 11 May 2023 the five joint Houses/Gates held a meeting to discuss the selection and nomination of Heads and Lawful Representatives. The Mary Akweley Anan House/Gate appointed Ernest Yartey Boye (son of George Kwei Boi) as their Head of Family. As custom demands, a sheep was slaughtered and libation was poured to signify the appointment.

How Succession Works
The Constitutional Process
A Mantse Passes
When the stool becomes vacant, the succession process begins with the family leadership.
Kingmakers Identify the House
The Akwaley Anan kingmakers identify which royal house the next Mantse should come from, using their knowledge of the family and customary discretion.
Enstoolment by Kingmakers
The selected candidate is formally enstooled through Ga customary ceremony involving the Akwaley Anan and the Asere Traditional authorities.

Mantse (Chief)
Abeka Mantse
Role
Supreme political, traditional, and administrative head of the Abeka Stool.
Manye (Queen Mother)
Abeka Manye
Role
Head of the female royal lineage. She holds a critical, definitive role in the vetting and selection process of a new chief.
Dzaasetse (Principal Kingmaker & Custodian)
Abeka Dzaasetse
Role
Senior custodial sub-chief and head of the Dzaase (the electoral/kingmaking college). This office determines the legitimacy, composition, and installation of the stool's rulers.
Stool Father (Custodian of the Stool)
Kingmaker
Role
Direct spiritual and physical custodian of the sacred stool itself, working in tight coordination with the Dzaase.
Okyeame (Linguist)
Abeka Okyeame
Role
The official spokesperson, diplomat, and orator of the palace. No official address to or from the Mantse occurs without the Okyeame.
