Nii Boi IV Formally Suspended as Abeka Mantse by Ga Traditional Council
On 5 December 2022, the Ga Traditional Council formally suspended Nii Boi IV from the Abeka stool following a unanimous petition by the Nii Boi Royal Family. Four principal grounds were cited, including unlawful enstoolments in direct violation of a High Court perpetual injunction.
The Suspension — 5 December 2022
On 5 December 2022, the Ga Traditional Council formally suspended Nii Boi IV from the exercise of his functions as Abeka Mantse. The suspension followed a unanimous petition by the Nii Boi Royal Family documenting a series of acts deemed unconstitutional under Ga custom and in contempt of a binding High Court order.
Four Grounds for Suspension
The petition presented four principal grounds to the Ga Traditional Council:
- Unlawful enstoolment of a Queen Mother: On 25 November 2022, Nii Boi IV purported to install Regina Naa Dedei Armah as Queen Mother of Abeka without the authority of the royal family. Under Ga custom, the Manye must be selected by the royal family — not installed unilaterally by the sitting Mantse.
- Unlawful installation of a Dzaase: Nii Boi IV purported to install Tawiah Dodoo as Dzaase of Abeka without the consent of the Nii Boi Royal Family and in direct violation of the perpetual injunction granted in Suit No. Misc. 1675/2002 by Her Lordship Mrs. Felicity Amoah, which specifically reserves the right to enstool within Abeka exclusively to the Nii Boi Royal Family.
- Arrogant and divisive conduct: The petition documented a sustained pattern of behaviour incompatible with the dignity and responsibilities of the Abeka stool.
- Financial misconduct: Allegations of mismanagement of stool resources and funds were formally presented to the Council.
The Ga Traditional Council Decision
The Ga Traditional Council reviewed the petition and upheld all four grounds. Nii Boi IV was suspended indefinitely from the exercise of his functions as Abeka Mantse, pending a full investigation and final adjudication of the substantive chieftaincy dispute. He ceased to act in any official capacity on behalf of the Abeka stool from that date.
Position of the Nii Boi Royal Family
The Nii Boi Royal Family maintains that the stool, the stool lands, and all traditional authority within Abeka remain vested in the family under the laws of Ghana and the customs of the Ga people. The family acted unanimously and in accordance with its constitutional rights in petitioning the Ga Traditional Council. The 2002 High Court perpetual injunction remains in force and binding on all parties.
